Hinges are a low cost, however vitally important part of the hardware package for every installation. Correctly selected a door hinge set will last the full life of the door. It is therefore essential to establish what task is being asked of the hinges. Do you require fire door hinges, or garage door hinges, spring hinges or projection hinges? Only by knowing the door weight, size, usage and whether a door closer is to be used can a simple assessment as to the most suitable grade of hinge be made. The effect of fitting a door closer to the door adds approximately 20% to the door weight, 75% if the door closer has a backcheck function.
Standards and Certification
Our highest quality hinges are tested to the European standard EN1935 and are graded accordingly. Using this standard along with the information you have regarding the door, you will be able to select the correct grade of hinge.
When fitting a hinge to a fire door the hinge must be CE marked and have CERTIFIRE certification. A copy of the appropriate documentation is available upon request.
